CEDAR FALLS – Hector Perez, 47, of Cedar Falls, died today, March 20, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer; services pending with Richardson Funeral Home, 266-3525.

CEDAR FALLS – Hector Perez, 47, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, March 20, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born Aug. 5, 1953, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, son of Maximino and Isidora Concepcion Perez. He married Kendra B. Williams on June 27, 1992, in Eagle Grove.

Mr. Perez received a bachelor of science nursing degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas, and a master of science nursing degree from Clarkson College, Omaha, Neb. He had been employed as an intensive care unit nurse at Allen Hospital from 1995 to 1998 and then worked as a family nurse practitioner in the emergency room at Allen from 1998 until retiring in October 1999 because of health reasons.

Mr. Perez also was past president of the District 4 Iowa Nursing Association.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Sophia M. Perez and Alexandra K. Perez, both at home; his parents of Newark, N.J.; a brother, Michael of Belleville, N.J.; and four sisters, Lucy Lorenzo of Aguada, Puerto Rico, Olga Gonzales of Lares, Puerto Rico, Hilda Torres of Bloomfield, N.J., and Mirta Ramos of North Plainfield, N.J.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Rafael.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Hector Perez was born August 5, 1953, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, the son: of Maximino and Isidora Concepcion Perez. On June 27, 1992, he was united in marriage to Kendra B. Williams at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He received his BSN degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, and his MSN degree from Clarkson College in Omaha, Neb., as Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner. He was employed at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, first as an I.C.U. nurse from 1995 to 1998, and then as a family nurse practitioner in the emergency room from 1998 until his retirement in 1999 due to health reasons. He was past president of the District Four Iowa Nurses Association and received the District Four Nurse of the Year in 2000, and was a member of the Promise Keepers.

Hector Perez died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of cancer at the age of 47.

He is survived by his wife, Kendra, Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughter's, Sophia M. and Alexandra K., both at home; his parents of Newark, N. J. one brother, Michael, Belleville, N. J.; and four sisters, Lucy Lorenzo, Aguada, Puerto Rico, Hilda Torres, Bloomfield, N. J., Olga Gonzales, Lares, Puerto Rico, and Mirta Ramos, N. Plainfield, N. J.

Services were held Friday, March 23, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls with the Reverends Bruce Ursin, Steve Hansen, and Laura Smith officiating. Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. in Eagle Grove.

Richardson Funeral Home of Cedar Falls was in charge of arrangements.
