James Lichliter funeral May 16

James M. Lichliter, 55, partner in the Gamble Store, died Sunday at Rochester, Minn, after a brief illness. Mr. Lichliter became suddenly ill early Friday morning and was taken to a hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. H. W. Schiller officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Lichliter is survived by his wife; one daughter, Barbara, Mrs. James Deacon of Oelwein; one brother, Frank of Bancroft; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold Singer of Riverside and Mrs. Walter Bradt of Pomona, Calif.

Obituary

James Marion Lichliter was born in Bancroft, Iowa on August 20, 1917 to Samuel and Hattie Kelley Lichliter. He was baptized and confirmed his faith in the triune God in March, 1942 at Albert Lea, Minn. He died May 13, 1973 at Rochester, Minn. after reaching the age of 55 years, 8 months, and 24 days.

Jim received his education in the Bancroft schools. He was united in marriage to Irene Christ of Wells, Minn. on May 11, 1941 at Albert Lea, Minn. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, during World War II. He was employed in a shoe store at Albert Lea until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1948, at which time he became a partner with his brother-in-law, Gene Christ, in operating the Gamble Store.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Irene; a sister, Frances; and a brother, Daniel.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife, Irene; one daughter, Barbara (Mrs. James Deacon) Oelwein; one brother, Frank of Bancroft; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Singer, Riverside, Calif.; and Mrs. Walter Bradt, Pomona, Calif.

Funeral services were held May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. H. W. Schiller, officiating. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Business Notes

THE GAMBLE STORE will be celebrating it’s 25th anniversary beginning this weekend.

The store was founded by Gene Christ and Jim Lichliter, and the plans for the anniversary sale were being made by Gene and Jim when Mr. Lichliter’s sudden death occurred. Customers are invited to register for prizes during the sale May 31 through June 9.
