MRS. F. LINDLEY DIED FRI., NOV. 28

Former Eagle Grove Resident Taken Ill at Theater, Died Soon After.

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Frank Lindley reached Eagle Grove the first of the week. She was taken seriously ill while attending a theater and on the advice of a physician was taken to her home and died soon afterwards.

The Lindley family were residents of Eagle Grove for many years, moving to California several years ago soon after Mr. Lindley was pensioned by tbe Northwestern after years of faithful service as engineer.

The following obituary appeared in the paper at Burbank, Calif., and gives the details of her life:

Obituary

A sudden death that will prove a shock to the scores of her friends, is that of Mrs. Harriet Ursula Lindley, which occurred last night at 9:50 o'clock at the home, 77 Angelono avenue, Burbank, Calif., acute indigestion being the cause of death.

With her granddaughter, Ursula, and her granddaughter’s husband, B. F. Farley, Mrs. Lindley had gone to the second show at the theater, and apparently was in usual health, but after being in the theater a few minutes, she complained of not feeling well and went to a drug store next door and obtained a simpler remedy and a doctor was called. It was thought best that she return home, and after reaching there seemed better for a short time, but then was again attacked with pain, and died almost immediately.

Mrs. Lindley had lived at her late home ever since she had been in Burbank, which was the past five years. She was a native of Lynn, Pennsylvania, born there July 16, 1846. She was united in marriage at Sterling, Ill., Sept. 29, 1868, to George F. Lindley, who remains to bear this severe loss, after being her partner for 56 years. The family lived in Chicago, Ill., and later moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in the spring of 1881, from which place they removed to California in the spring of 1920. Mr. Lindley was a railroad engineer during his active career.

The near relatives who survive are: the husband; a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Peterson, and four children, three of whom have lived with the parents during their residence here; the fourth, Mrs. Roy Teel, lives in the neighboring town of Owensmouth; two sons, Bert Lindley, who lives in Hollywood but is known to a number in this city, and another son, Harry Lindley of Kansas City. There are also two granddaughters, Mrs. Ben Farley and Mrs. Clarence A. Lamb, who until her recent removal to Hollywood, has been a resident of Burbank. The two young women were reared by their grandparents, their mother dying when they were small.

The funeral of Mrs. Lindley will be held from the Fillbach chapel Monday morning, Dec. 1st, at 10 o’clock, with Rev. Austin of the Congregational church officiating.

The deceased was an almost life long member of the Congregational denomination and an earnest worker in its various lines of helpfulness. She was also, in her earlier life very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, holding an office in the Eagle Grove chapter. For the last few years her public work has been decreased, but she retained to a remarkable degree both her physical and mental faculties, keeping her touch upon modern life and her interest keen in the activities of the world. She was untiring in her devotion to her family and had spent a most useful life, having reared not only one family, but three families and the children whom Providence had placed in her keeping.

The following were pall bearers: John Brown, Dan Levinson, J. G. Grundy, O. H. Peters, Frank Hife, and P. A. Farley, all old Iowa friends and neighbors, P A. Farley being the husband of Mrs. Mary Keith, formerly of Eagle Grove.
