(By Rev. T. J. Severtson)Liva Stockdale was born at Stockdale in Stavanger Amt, Norway, Europe, May 17, 1854, and died in her home at Worthington, Minn., July 17, 1930, age 76 years and six months. She was baptized, instructed and confirmed in the Vatss church of her home parish.
In 1877 she was united in marriage to Jacob Lilleskau and four years later they came to the United States to Story county, Iowa, living near Slater, Iowa for about one year and then coming to Wright county in the year of 1882, locating near Nuel, Iowa. Here they assisted in organizing the North Enes Lutheran church and were active members in it until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1910, where they became members of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church.
Mr, Lilleskau passed away from this life Nov. 10, 1922. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lilleskau, two preceding their parents in death.
Mrs. Lilleskau was again married to Ed. Johnson of Round Lake, Minn. in 1925. Mr. Johnson passed away in the spring of 1929 and that same fall Mrs. Johnson moved to Worthington, Minn., where she has since lived. She was a faithful attendant at the Swedish Mission church and was expecting to unite with it.
She is now survived by four sons, Ben Lilleskau, Vincent; Lew Lilleskau, Eagle Grove; Christ Lilleskau, Chicago, Ill., and Tommy Lilleskau, Tulsa, Okla.; also four daughters, Mrs. Anna Farland, Des Moines; Mrs. Carrie Hanson, Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. Julia Hanson, Lake Mills, and Mrs. Mary Wallin, Glenville. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and two brothers, Severt K. Stockdale, Eagle Grove and Lewis Stockdale, Goldfield, and by three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Anderson, Eagle Grove and Mrs. Martha Kaarhus and Mrs, Gurl Hustoft, both in Norway.
Mrs. Johnson passed away quite suddenly last Thursday evening. She had just returned from a visit to Eagle Grove. She was present at the funeral services of Even Olson here last Tuesday afternoon, and returned to Worthington on Wednesday, but was taken suddenly ill and passed away almost instantly Thursday evening.
Funeral services were held at her home in Worthington on Saturday and the body was brought to Eagle Grove where services were held in the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery in the Lilleskau family lot.
