Double Services Held for Goldfield Widow
EAGLE GROVE—Double services were held Thursday for Mrs. Rose Axon, 64, widow, who died Monday in a Fort Dodge hospital. The first was at 1:30 o'clock here at the Kubitschek and Kastler Funeral home and the second at 2 o'clock in the United Presbyterian church of Goldfield, with burial in Glenwood cemetery there. The Rev. John T. Haupt was in charge. She is survived by two sons, Robert living near Goldfield, and John living near Vincent, and one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Melata [Milota] of Davenport. The husband, Peter Axon, died in 1929. Born in Reinbeck. she had lived in Goldfield for 27 years.

Services for Mrs. Peter Axon, 64, Held Here Last Thursday Afternoon

Mrs. Peter Axon, 64, passed away at the Lutheran hospital, in Fort Dodge, on last Monday, December 21, 1942, following an illness of several months' duration. While she had been a patient sufferer for many months, her death was a severe shock to her relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home in Eagle Grove, at 1:30 o'clock, on Thursday afternoon, December 24, and at the United Presbyterian church in Goldfield at 2:00 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. John T. Haupt officiating. Two songs, “Nearer, My God, To Thee," and "Abide With Me," were sung by Mrs. Barbara Moseley and Miss Jeanette McCleery, with Miss Bettie Keith as accompanist. The body was laid to rest beside her husband in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield; Pall bearers were Chris Christensen, Walter French, Maurice Gangestead, Albert McCleery, Carl Schipull and Hans Sorenson.

Rosa Christina, daughter of Peter and Marguerite Willins Steffen, was born in Reinbeck, Iowa, on November 29, 1878, one of a family of seven children. While Rosa was still in early childhood, her parents moved to Traer, and here she attended the public school and grew into young womanhood.
On March 15, 1905, she was united in marriage to Peter Axon, of Traer, and immediately following her marriage, she came with her husband to Goldfield, where she continued to reside until the death of her husband on September 27, 1939.

Mrs. Axon became the mother of three children, one daughter, Margaret (Mrs. L. E. Milota) of Davenport; two sons, John of Duncombe and Roy of Goldfield. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Peter Steffen of Traer; two brothers, John Steffen of Traer and Rudolph Steffen of Eldon; four sisters, Mrs. Otto Hansen, Mrs. John Powell and Mrs. A. J. McCutcheon of Traer, Miss Emily Steffen of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Peggy Milota, Barbara Ann and Mary Jane Axon.

During the many years of her residence in this community, Mrs. Axon had taken an active interest in the work of the United Presbyterian church. She had served for a number of years as a trustee of the local church, and was an earnest and sincere worker in the missionary society. She was also active in various community affairs, and was a charter member of the D. E. L. L. club.

Countless friends and many acquaintances will miss her friendly, quiet and unassuming manner, and the kindly assistance and help so freely and cheerfully given.

McCutcheon and Lee and Leonard Axon of Traer, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hansen of Clutier, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bastian of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Charley Anderson of Elmore, Minn.
