The amazing, over a century long life, of Adeline Edith Kroll began on February 1, 1918 in Hampton, Iowa to Fred and Ruth [Fletcher] Kroll. As a girl she attended rural Vernon No. 2 school and graduated as the class valedictorian from the Dows High School in 1935. After attending Ellsworth Junior College she taught in two rural schools until she married. On March 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ralph Arthur Collins in Williams, Iowa, and to this union three children were born: Bryce, Sharon, and Glenda. They lived in rural Dows for 81 years, her father-in-law Warren Collins lived with the family for 27 years. In 1998 the couple moved to Iowa Falls.

Ralph and Adeline spent 25 winters in Texas, where they made many friends. Many times Adeline drove the long route pulling a fifth-wheel camper. She was a member of the Dows Methodist Church since 1940. She held various offices within the church, and she loved teaching 1st grade Sunday School for many years. She was a 4-H leader for nine years and an active member of the Vernon Friendly Club for over 60 years, along with being a member of the Kensington and other local clubs.

Adeline kept a diary for over 80 years and made scrapbooks to record family activities and national news. Throughout her long and extraordinary life she saw many changes and events our country has gone through over the last 100 years. Her brilliant mind astonished many and she won many discussions remembering dates and events. She was an excellent cook and kept two large recipe boxes, plus many cookbooks and “yet to be tried” recipes. Gardening was also a passion of hers, as she annually would grow various roses and over 1000 gladioli flowers, entering many into garden shows and competitions. Adeline also enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts, bird watching, and a lively game of cards with friends or family.

She greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and all of their activities. Adeline Edith Collins is survived by her daughter Sharon Womack of Webster City, daughter Glenda Plant and husband Tom of Philomath, Oregon, and daughter-in-law Dora Collins (Bryce) of Iowa Falls and eight grandchildren, Ron Collins (Jody), Karen Collins Bouska (Bob), Debra Womack Hopkins, Kevin Womack (Cheryl), Keith Womack (Lisa), Tara Womack Hanna (Kory), Alicia Plant Straub (Dave), and Gary Plant (Jill), and 12 great-grandchildren: Joe, Nick and Kyle Bouska, Tyler and Ashley Hopkins, Cole, Kaden and Katelyn Womack, Kelsey, Beau and Josh Hanna, Mackenzie, Ashley, and Dustin Straub, Emily, Justin, and Amanda Plant, plus two great-great grandchildren Kaine and Bennett. Special family friends the Russ and Lois Lawson Family of St. Charles, Mo and Helen Meyer.

Adeline Collins is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, her son Bryce, her sister Gertrude Hilpipre, and her parents Fred and Ruth Kroll.

A special thank you to Sami and Alex Lafontaine and the other staff of Scenic Manor Nursing Home for your loving kindness and caring of Adeline.
