William H. Ely was born September 30, 1913, in Hartington, Neb., to Andrew and Mary Spooner
Ely. He later moved with his family to Fort Dodge, Iowa, and attended schools in Fort Dodge. He married Edith Holm in 1932, in Austin, Minn. She died in 1970. He later married Ruth Frakes at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and they made their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed with National Gypsum for 26 years. He then owned and operated A-l Auto Parts and later was employed with Gambel's Auto Shop. He then operated an antique furniture repair shop from his home until retiring. In 1997, they moved to Eagle Grove Rotary Ann Apartments.William H. Ely died Monday, December 6, 1999, at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, at the
age of 86. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, Eagle Grove; two sons, Harlan Ely, Fort Dodge, and Lyle Ely, Sioux City, Iowa; two stepsons, James Frakes, Boone, Iowa, and John Frakes, Eagle Grove; one stepdaughter, Arneda Toillion, Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edith; two brothers; and three sisters.Funeral services were held Thursday, December 9, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, with the Reverend Thomas J. Topf officiating. Burial was held in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home of Fort Dodge was in charge of arrangements.
