18 November 1911 ---- 3 October 2002

Mary Edney Weatherwax Latham, 90, of Ames died of congestive heart failure Thursday at Northcrest Community Retirement Center there. Services will be at 11a.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Dodge, of which she was a member. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Latham was born in Chenoa, Ill. She also had lived in New York City, Sioux City, Ida Grove, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge and Des Moines before returning to Fort Dodge. She moved to Ames four years ago. She was a recreation director for the city of Sioux City and later worked at the national PEO office in Des Moines. She was a member of PEO and Order of the Eastern Star and was a scout leader for Girl Scouts of America. She taught needlework classes at Blanden Art Gallery in Fort Dodge and the YMCA and was known for her needlework, sewing and knitting.

She is survived by a son, Wilbur J. Jr. of Marshalltown; two daughters, Suzanne Latham Thomsen of Stillwater, Minn., and Dorothy Latham Prater of Ames; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur J. Sr.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge.
