Vera C. Andersen, 90, died Thursday. March 24, 2005, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 11.30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Paul Stone officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Elvira "Vera" Christine Andersen was born on April 19, 1914, in Garner, Iowa, the daughter of Axel and Anna (Josephsen) Andersen. She was baptized on
September 6, 1914, in the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garner. In 1920 the Andersen family moved to Eagle Grove where Vera attended school and was confirmed in 1928 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She became an excellent seamstress and enjoyed drawing and entertaining her nieces. Vera also enjoyed walking with friends. Vera was employed as a caregiver of children and the elderly in the Eagle Grove area. She lovingly cared for her parents in their final illnesses and after their deaths, made her home with her sisters and nieces.

Following a stay in Extended Care at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, Vera moved to Rotary Ann South in 1996 and then moved to the north building.

She is survived by one sister, Olga Helmke, of Renwick, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Emma
Purkapile and Mildred Midland. The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove is in charge of the arrangements.
