Van Stafford Dies Tuesday Evening
Van Stafford, 76, died Tuesday evening at the Minor Nursing Home. He had been a patient there for several months.Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sacquety Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Mr. Stafford moved to this community about 40 years ago, and for many years was a saw miller here and at Goldfield. He retired four years ago. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Webster City.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Stafford of Cheney, Washington, daughter and two sons in Eagle Grove, Mrs. Wallace Larson, Ralph and Elgin Stafford; also two sons and a daughter Clifford, Donald and Mrs. Helen Swape of Spokane, Wash.; and another daughter, Mrs. H. E. Rickaby of Kennewick, Wash.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Elisha Van Stafford at the Sacquety Funeral chapel, with Rev. Carlton Beardsley officiating. Interment was in the Glenwood cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa.Elisha Van Stafford was born May 3, 1879 at Claypool, Indiana. He spent his early life there. On December 10, 1910 he was united in marriage to Bessie Lee. To this union were born eight children Ralph, Elgin, and Lurene, Mrs. Wallace Larson of Eagle Grove; Clifford, Donald and Helen, Mrs. Swape of Spokane, Washington, Joan, Mrs. H. E. Rickaby of Kennewick, Washington, and Lee.
They moved to Goldfield in 1915 where he worked in a garage and as a night watchman for several years, then went into the threshing and wood-sawing business. In 1930 the family moved to Eagle Grove where he continued this business. In 1940 Mr. Stafford moved to Webster City where he worked for the McCullough Implement Co. and in 1951 retired because of failing health.
The first of April he entered the Webster City hospital where he remained until June when he was brought to the Minor Nursing home in Eagle Grove. He died Tuesday evening, August 23rd.
He was preceded in death by his son Leo who lost his life in Germany in World War II on March 3, 1945. He leaves to mourn, his wife, seven children, nine grandchildren and a host of friends.
Casket bearers were Roger Mourlam, William Rifen, L. B. Larson, Bert Weland, Earl Capsel and Frank Imus.
