MABEL CATHERINE YOUNG
Mabel Catherine Chambers was born on September 11, 1905, the daughter of Thomas and Dorthea Denison Chambers, at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Fort Dodge schools, and then received her degree in nursing from Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge. She continued nursing until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Ralph Young of Thor, Iowa, on February 8, 1944, at Kansas City, Mo. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where Ralph worked in the town's hemp plant for eight years. They then moved to Thor, where they stayed throughout their marriage. Ralph died on July 6, 1983.

Mabel entered the Rotary Ann Retirement Home, Eagle Grove, on September 24, 1987. She was taken to Clarion Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion,. Iowa, on Dec. 19, 1991, due to failing health. She passed away there on Dec. 21,1991, at the age of 86 years, three months, and 10 days. She leaves in passing her sister, Hazel Baumunk of Chimacum, Wash., as well as friends and relatives. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers.

She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and was quite proficient in working with crochet. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 23, 1991, at the Kastler- Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Reverend H. W. Schiller of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor, officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services and burial followed at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.
