J. M’FARLAND DROPS DEAD

East Side Barber Stricken in Northwestern Yards Near Freight Office Sunday Morning.

John McFarland, East Side barber, dropped to the ground dead, Sunday morning near the C. & N. W. freight office. He was alone enroute to the West Side. He had been in poor health all winter and had made two trips to Iowa City for relief. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. He was found by Joe Howe, lying partly on the rail, face down. He apparently died without a struggle. Dr. Walker, county coroner, was called and decided he came to his death from natural causes.

Mr. McFarland, "Jiggs” as his friends loved to call him, was 57 years of age. He had been married but his wife is dead. Several children are known to survive, but no trace of them had been found as this article was written. He left some insurance and owned the building in which he operated his barber shop. W. F. Insel was appointed a administrator.

The funeral services were held in Sacred Heart church Wednesday morning, and the burial was in Calvary cemetery.
