James McDermott Rites Saturday
Funeral services for James McDermott, 83, were held Saturday morning at Sacred Heart church in charge of Rev. J. L. Byrne. Mr. McDermott who was suffering from heart trouble for the past year, died quietly while resting at his home Thursday afternoon, May 15.
Mr. McDermott is survived by his wife and seven children. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.
Obituary
James McDermott was born October 17, 1863, in Kearney, Ireland. When he was one year old he came to America with his parents and settled at Kenney, Illinois. In 1896 he came to Eagle Grove where he has resided continuously except for a three-year period at Council Bluffs.
He was employed as a pile driver engineer for the C&NW railroad from 1907 until 1934 when he was retired.
He was married to Elizabeth Neuger November 16, 1898. To this union were born nine children, two of whom preceded him in death.
He died May 15, 1947, in Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held May 18 with Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart church and burial in Calvary cemetery, Eagle Grove.
He is survived by his wife and seven children, John of Eagle Grove, Mary of Clarinda, Chris of Eagle Grove, Lawrence of Goldfield, Mrs. Josephine Mahncke of Waterloo, Mrs. Margaret Sprengelmeyer of Munster, Indiana, Mrs. Mildred Bradley of Clarion. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Martens, Spencer, Mrs. Art Naughton and son Richard of Pocahontas, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Klinger of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Mr. A. A. Dunlavey and daughter Mary of Mason City, Iowa, Mrs. Mattie Cowan of Rapid City, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beigger of Luverne, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray of Fort Dodge.
