June 28, 1863 --- January 14, 1904

Mrs. Wm. McDermott.

Angel of Death visited the McDermott home Thursday afternoon and carried away the spirit of the loving wife and mother, Helen Agnes McDermott. The news of Mrs. McDermott's death, altho not unexpected, shocked the entire neighborhood. She has been at the point of death for the past week, but each day she would rally, and the family and friends would entertain hopes of her ultimate recovery. The cause of her demise was due to an attack of pneumonia.

The deceased was born in Tama, June 28, 1863. Her maiden name was Helen Agnes Brick. On June 28, 1883, the twentieth anniversary of her birth, she was joined in the bonds of wedlock to W. J. McDermott. To this happy union were born eight children, three daughters and five sons. Seven of the children are left to mourn with their father, the untimely death of the wife and mother. She has three brothers and one sister who still survive her.

The deceased had always been a faithful member of the Roman Catholic church, remaining steadfast to its teachings and doctrines all her life. She was a dutiful and constant wife and a devoted, and loving mother. During her fourteen years of residence in Eagle Grove, she had formed many dear and lasting friendships because of her unselfishness and many kind acts. Her departure into the Great Unknown will leave a place here that no one can fill. The entire community joins in giving the family sincerest sympathy.

The funeral was held in the Sacred Heart church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, and interment was made in Gethsemane cemetery.
