He had been failing in health for more than a year, but had been able to walk down town occasionally till last Saturday, when he took to his bed. Death was due to a complication of diseases incident to old age and was not wholly unexpected. The deceased would have been 77 years of age had he lived till August 16 next. He was the father of A. While the deceased had lived in Iowa but eight years, his son, A. J. Leonard of the firm of Carson & Leonard of this city, has resided at Woolstock and in this city for more than twenty years, as have also several of the other children, and the family is well and widely known hereabouts.

Thomas Leonard

Thomas Leonard was born in Licking county, Ohio, in August, 1831 [1833]. He was married to Esther Jones at the Northville Parsonage by Squire Slye at the age of 21 years.

To this union ten children were born, 4 of whom preceded him some years before. He leaves to mourn his untimely loss a wife and six children: W. H. Leonard of Monango, N. Dakota; A. J. Leonard, G. F. Leonard, Mrs. A. H. Maxon all of Webster, City; Mrs. Earl Wallin of Eagle Grove; and Mrs. John McMullen of Chatsworth, Ill. He died at his family home in Woolstock on May 23, 1910 at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 7 days.

Mr. Leonard lived for some time in and near Serena and Ottawa, Ill. and for a few years past has lived in Woolstock. He at one time owned what was formerly the Lee farm near the Woolstock Cemetery but after a couple of years he sold it and bought a part of the River-bend farm west of the river and north of the road, which he owned at the time of his death. He was a man that whoever he had dealings with found him honest and upright. If he told you he would do a thing, he would do it. It was a common thing to see him on our streets everyday, jovial and ready for a spar and joke in his friendly way and enjoyed a social chat. We will now miss Uncle Thomas as we all called him.

The funeral was held at the M. E. Church May 25th. Services by the M. E. Pastors of Webster City and Woolstock and the Woolstock choir. The remains were interred in the family lot in the Woolstock cemetery.
