July 9, 1878 --- November 16, 1952

Mrs. Dina McDermott, 74, died Sunday night at her home on South Cadwell Ave. following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) morning at 10 o'clock in Sacred Heart church.

The funeral mass will be read by Rev. Richard McDermott of Philadelphia, Pa., a nephew of the deceased. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. McDermott is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry Weidenman with whom she made her home, also one sister, Mrs. Myron Spencer of Casper, Wyo., one granddaughter, Mrs. Wilbur Schutt and one great granddaughter, Kathy Schutt.

Other out-of-town relatives who are here for the funeral are Mrs. Katherine Knowles of Jersey City, N. J., sister of Rev. McDermott.

Last Rites For Mrs. Dina McDermott

Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. November 20, for Mrs. Dina McDermott who died at her home here November 16, after a lingering illness.

A Requiem High mass was held at Sacred Heart Church, the celebrant of the mass was Mrs. McDermott's nephew, the very Rev. Richard M. McDermott, O. P. prior and pastor of Holy name church, Philadelphia, Pa. The sermon was given by the Rev. M. A. Mullan of Eagle Grove. Music was furnished by Miss Pauline Kubitschek, Miss Alice O‘Toole and Miss Harriet Amundson. Pall bearers were: Wilbur Baker, Bruce Blake, John Henneberry, Earl Maloney, Roy Hail, and Clifford Simpson.

Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Obituary

Dina Loretta Hughes, daughter of James and Jane Hughes was born July 9, 1878 in Grundy County, Illinois, and died November 16, 1952 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. At an early, age, she moved with her parents to a farm near Badger. Iowa, and later near Goldfield. In 1897, the family moved to Eagle Grove. On January 14, 1901, she was united in marriage to Andrew McDermott of Eagle Grove. They moved to Iroquois, So. Dak. in 1908 where they resided until Mr. McDermott's retirement in 1938. They then moved back to Eagle Grove, where they lived with John Hughes in the Hughes family home on South Cadwell avenue.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McDermott, three of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. McDermott was preceded in death, by her husband, her father and mother, two sisters, and her brother, John Hughes.

Those who survive to mourn her passing are one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Weidenman of this city, one granddaughter, Mrs. Jarlath Schutt, Blairsburg, Iowa. One great-granddaughter, Kathleen Mary Schutt, one sister, Mrs. Miranda Spencer, Casper, Wyo.

Other relatives and friends, who attended the funeral, were: Mrs. Catherine Knowles, Jersey City, N. J.; Mrs. James Sheridan, Bancroft; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Feeley, Mrs. Jennie McDermott, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Sill, Des Moines; Mr. Don Kassner, Waterloo; Mrs. Lawrence Becker, Bancroft; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Schutt, Clarion and Earl Geyer, St. Louis, Missouri.
