Judge Cooke received notice Monday that his appointment as postmaster for another four years had been confirmed by the senate. Monday was Mr. Cooke’s 51st birthday.

Paralysis Causes Death of Former Eagle Grove Postmaster and Prominent Iowa Democrat.

Harry A. Cooke, 66, died in San Francisco, Calif., on Monday, June 6. About four months ago he moved from Sonora, Calif., to San Francisco and had started a suburban grocery store. Soon after he was stricken with paralysis, which was nearly six weeks prior to his passing.

Mr. Cooke was at one time yardmaster for the Northwestern here and for several years conducted the Morgan Hotel, now the Broadway. In 1913 he was appointed postmaster at Eagle Grove by President Wilson, serving in that capacity over 12 years. About six years ago he moved to California where he was employed by the Pickwick Bus Line as station agent and ticket salesman at Sonora, Calif. Finally he was laid off by the company and moved to San Francisco.

He is survived by his wife and one adopted son, to whom the sympathy of their many Wright county and Iowa friends is extended.

The burial was in San Francisco.
