Obituary

At Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday, April 17th, 1917 occurred the death of William H. Burmeister after an illness of seven weeks of a complication of diseases. The deceased was born in Clarence, Iowa, May 3rd, 1882, at which place he passed his boyhood.

In 1899 he moved to Humboldt county where he followed the occupation of farming and about four years ago came to Eagle Grove where he resided till claimed by death.

In 1915 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Tillie Brassfield, who with one brother Herman of Illinois, three stepchildren and two adopted sons are left to mourn his untimely taking away.

The funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church Thursday at 9 a. m., Rev. T. Nolan officiating, and Sacred Heart choir with Mrs. Thos. Mulready as leading soloist, rendering a beautiful Requiem Mass. The floral tributes, offering of sympathy from lodges and friends impressed one with the esteem and respect in which the departed is held.

He was an active member in the Knights of Columbus and Brotherhood of American Yeomen lodges.

A stalwart oak has fallen in the silent forest and mingled its growth with the elements. For him there is no more sorrow and no more suffering; no more disappointments and no more heartaches; no more of earth's bitterness and life's contentions, but the all embracing silence and the dreamless sleep.

If to have been pure and noble of soul, kind and gentle of heart, generous and forgiving with all, makes life a success, then his was grandly so. With calm, serene and loving eyes he looked upon life, and strong and steadfast of soul he passed to the Great Beyond.

It is hard to say, "Thy Will be Done" when death in one fell stroke has taken from us a loved one, but somehow, somewhere, we will be made to understand God's infinite purpose. The perfect life is not here but beyond, the suffering is here, the joy of eternity there, and so we know he has "crossed the bar" under the guidance of our Pilot who endureth forever, and for the bereaved ones who yet remain, there will be a brief season of mingled smiles and tears, and of heart gladness and heart sadness, and then they too shall fall asleep.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to thank all our friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us with their untiring help and cheered and comforted us during the illness and death of' our dear husband and father. Rest assured, kind friends, it will remain fresh in memory till forgotten in death. We also wish to express our appreciation for the beautiful floral tributes from the lodges and friends.

Mrs. W.H. Burmeister and children.
