Shirley Eloise Gilroy, daughter of William and Genevieve Stevens Fink, was born May 31, 1922 in Lohrville, Iowa. She was raised by her grandparents, Edward and Annie Stevens, first in Lohrville and later in Cooper where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Victor Charles Gilroy on December 9, 1940 in Rockwell City. They lived in several locations where her husband worked for United Foods, Safeway and Fareway Stores. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in the 1960's where they owned, and operated a restaurant. They moved to Perry in the early 1970's and retired to Augusta, Ga. in 1985. Due to her failing health, they returned to Perry in 1988.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Perry, Royal Neighbors of America, and Good Sam Camping Group.

Shirley Gilroy died November 2, 1994 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 2 days. She is survived by her husband Victor, Perry; two sons, Stephen, Augusta, Ga. and Dennis, Cedar Falls; three grandsons; one niece; two sisters-in-law, Lee Fink, Tacoma, Wash, and Vada Gilroy, Jefferson; one brother-in-law, Merle Gilroy and wife Juanita, Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary, at age three; her daughter-in-law, Lisha; and one brother, Garvey Stephen Fink.

Services were held at the Hastings Funeral Home on Monday, November 7, 1994 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Alice Bolen of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa. The Hastings Funeral Home of Perry was in charge of arrangements.
