Kelly O. Howell was born September 14, 1956, the son of Lonnie Wayne and Esther Claudine Staley Howell, at Fort Dodge. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1974. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy on December 19, 1975, at Eagle Grove. While in the Navy, he was stationed on the U.S.S. Norton Sound. He earned his honorable discharge on April 4, 1977, at Long Beach, Calif.

Following his discharge, he was employed in construction, and also for Farmland Industries, Eagle Grove. Most recently, he held a managers position for the Coach's Corner Bar, in Goldfield.

Kelly Howell died March 2, 1991, as a result of a one-car accident east of Eagle Grove, at the age of 34 years, five months, and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents; one son, Cory, Goldfield; brothers, Steve, Fort Dodge, and Lonnie, Eagle Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Diane) Dobbs, Eagle Grove, and Valerie Mohr of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held March 4 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. The Rev. David Miller of the First Baptist Church, Eagle Grove, officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
