Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Nolan Rouse, was born on June 9, 1967 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to David and Ruth (Nolan) Rouse. Dan grew up on a sixteen acre farm next to the Boone River, where he found a passion for showing and marketing 4-H and FFA lambs. He enjoyed helping with the family farm and had a love for the outdoors, nature and animals.

Dan received his education in Eagle Grove, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1986. From a young age, Dan had a strong interest in military tactics, history, philosophy, and politics. He had always wanted to become a soldier. Following high school, he attended Iowa State University. He earned a B.A. degree in Business Administration and Finance in addition to a commission as an Army Infantry Officer in 1991. Dan shortly thereafter went on active duty. During his twenty two years of service, he served in many countries around the world, including one tour in Kuwait and two tours in Iraq. He was awarded many medals, badges, ribbons, along with a Bronze Star. Dan wholeheartedly carried out his duty as an American soldier. He touched many lives around the world.

Dan was a dedicated Army Officer, he was also a loving son, brother, father, husband, and a friend to many. Dan was united in marriage to his college sweetheart, Anne Meyer of Calmar, Iowa in 1995. Together they had three daughters, Sophia, Fiona, and Isabella, who loved and admired their father for his sense of humor, his lovable personality, and his bravery in the line of duty.

Dan retired from the military in 2013, and later spent a year in Abu Dhabi working as a military consultant for the United Arab Emirates. He decided to spend the rest of his retirement near Denver, Colorado, and was working on his MBA at the University of Denver.
