December 19, 1920 ---- November 4, 1991

Bernard William Ebbing was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Eagle Grove, the son of William Bernard and Margaret Sweeney Ebbing. He married Virginia M. Buckwalter on June 19, 1943, in Quantico, Va. Mr. Ebbing was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture education. He was past director and president of the National Dairy Cattle Congress. He retired from Rath Packing Co. after 27 years of service and taught vocational agriculture at West Union High School. In 1987, he was inducted into the National Pork Producers Hall of Fame, receiving the Governor's Volunteer Award in 1988.

Bernard William Ebbing, 70, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1991, at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue of a stroke. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Margaret Ebbing. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Reiter, Ottumwa and Jane Ann Leymaster of Hastings, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, November 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military rites conducted by Waterloo AM VETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Memorials may be made to Animal Science Department, Iowa State University.
