Catherine Anne Fiddick Schaeferle
31 March 1916 --- 2 September 1997

(Catherine) Anne Schaeferle was born March 31, 1916, to Richard Alden Fiddick and Elsie Estelle Wilson in the town of Osage, Iowa. She grew up in Osage and received her B. A. from Cornell College. Catherine) Anne Fiddick and Martin J. Schaeferle were married December 29, 1940. She returned to Osage in 1943 while Martin served in the armed forces in Europe. Upon his return, they moved to Eagle Grove, where they remained for 30 years. In 1974, they moved to Chapel Hill, N.C., where Dr. Schaeferle became a staff member of the University of North Carolina student health department. After his retirement in 1984, they continued to reside in Chapel Hill until Dr. Schaeferle's death. She moved to Tacoma, Wash., and subsequently to Austin, Texas, to continue to be near family.

She was active in their church and in P. E. O. Her family and friends will never forget her generosity and selflessness. She had a unique ability to see the good in people and was always willing to put the needs of others before her own. Over the years, they developed many lifetime friendships while in Eagle Grove.

(Catherine) Anne Schaeferle died quietly in Austin on September 2, 1997. (Catherine) Anne Schaeferle is survived by three sons, Martin Schaeferle III, and his wife, Mary-Helen, of Austin, Texas, Richard Allen Schaeferle of Godfrey, Ill., and Tom Lynn Schaeferle, and his wife, Sally, of Vancouver, B. C., Canada; and by five grandchildren, Martin Scott, and his wife, Kimberly, Matthew Craig, Quentin Drake, Blake
Alexander, and Hunter Allen, and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Nicole and Gavin Martin.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of (Catherine) Anne Schaeferle will be held at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove on Monday, September 22, 1997, at 2 p.m.
