John McDonough died Tuesday morning at his home. Funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church. Complete obituary next week.

John Andrew McDonough was born in Pennsylvania on January 1, 1855 and departed this life at his home in Eagle Grove on Tuesday morning, September 17th, 1918, thus being more than 63 years of age. When but a boy, Mr. McDonough removed to Kirksville, Mo., and later at the age of 17 he came to Hardin County in this state where he remained for some time. Residence has been in this place for the past 15 or 20 years.

While living in Hardin county the deceased was married to Miss Alice Fossler, who with their three children, Earnest, Lula, and Mrs. Chas. F. Banks, of Waterloo, Ia., survive to mourn the loss of a loving husband and thoughtful companion.

During the Lowry tabernacle meetings held in this city some years since, Mr. McDonough united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he has been a consistent member since.

Those who know the departed best love especially to think of his devotion to his home and of his thoughtfulness of others. It is said that he always preferred to spend any spare time which might be on his hands with his family in his own home. And many instances of practical helpfulness indicated that he thought of himself last of all. These are qualities of character, which can never find too frequent exemplification. The world is ever better for the living of those who practice such precepts.

The disease which caused his death appeared in aggravated form last June, since which time the deceased has been a great sufferer, though he was bedfast but one week.

Rev. Hugh Moore had charge of the funeral services, which were held, last Thursday, afternoon.
