Sept. 13, 1871 --- July 21, 1928

Mrs. Sam McCombs died at her farm home southwest of Eagle Grove Saturday, July 21st. Her illness was of two years duration. She was a patient sufferer, and her many friends join the Eagle in extending the bereaved husband and daughter their sincerest sympathy in the hour of their great sorrow. The following obituary was read at the funeral services which were held Tuesday afternoon.

Obituary

Emma Thorpe (Thorp) was born Sept. 13, 1871 in Viola, Wis. When she was still a young child her parents lived in a number of places till she was seven years of age when they moved to Story county, Iowa, in 1878. They lived here till in 1894 when they moved to Hardy.

On October 30, 1895, she was united in marriage to Sam McCombs. They lived in Hardy from 1895 till 1902, then moved to Wright county where they have since lived except for a few brief absences.

One child was born to this union Mrs. Lelia I. Troyer of Des Moines.

Early in life Mrs. McCombs was a member of the Christian church but when she was married she joined the Methodist church with her husband. They held their membership in Goldfield.

Mrs. McCombs has been sick for almost two years. She passed away at 8 o’clock, Saturday, July 21, 1928, at the age of 56 years, nine months and eight days. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her going her husband and daughter already mentioned, her mother, Mrs. A. W. Thorpe [Thorp] of Milltown, Wis., two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Hughes of Ithaca, N. Y. and Mrs. Dora Frederick of Anoka, Minn. and one brother, D. E. Thorpe [Thorp] of Milltown, Wis. and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held in the home on the farm southwest of Eagle Grove on Tuesday at 2:00 o’clock. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. G. Muhleman.

She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was very unselfish in her kindness and most thoughtful of others.

HARDY NEWS

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Sam McCombs of Eagle Grove which occurred Saturday, July 21. Funeral was held at Eagle Grove Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. McCombs were former residents here.

Abner Thorpe [Thorp] and Dave and wife of Milltown, Wis., and Mrs. Dora Frederick of Elk River, Minn., visited old friends here Sunday. They were enroute to attend the funeral of Mrs. Sam McCombs at Eagle Grove.
