Sophie Mildred Thompson was born at Duluth, Minn., Jan. 5, 1902, and passed away at Oakdale, Iowa, Feb. 6, 1931, at the age of 29 years, one month and one day.

Her father died when she was three years old. When she was five years old she went to live with Mr. and Mrs. John Burke who then lived at Fenton, Iowa. In 1912 she came with Mr. and Mrs. Burke to Eagle Grove. Sophie grew to womanhood with them and there she had an excellent Christian home. She was brought up in the Christian faith and confirmed by Rev. T. J. Spande.

Miss Thompson was married in 1922 to John McBride of Emmetsburg, Iowa. Four children were born to this union, namely Madeline age 8, Richard, 5, and James 3. Jane Ann passed away in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her death besides her husband and three children, her mother, Mrs. L. W. Casky of Lehigh, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Goodrich of Lehigh, Mrs. Ernest Christenson Ft. Dodge; one brother and three half-brothers, Arthur Thompson of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Lloyd, Alva and Walter Casky of Lehigh. Then her foster-mother, Mrs. John Burke who had cared for her as her own child, besides many other friends and relatives.

Sophie, as her friends called her, was of a very kind, loving and tender disposition. She had her share of trials and afflictions in this world of sorrow. She had also suffered more than a year from a lingering but incurable illness. But she had learned to flee to Jesus for refuge and given herself to Him, and died trusting in her Saviour.

The funeral was held from the West Side Lutheran church, Monday, Feb. 9. Rev. P. Ljostveit officiated. Rev. T. J. Severtson, Sam Olson of Cylinder and Thos. Pederson also spoke or took part. The choir rendered two selections and Bernice Mellgren sang a solo.

May God bless and comfort the bereaved relatives.

The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1, 21.
