Joan Louise (Leonard) Malkmus, 86, of Humboldt formerly of Livermore, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

Joan was born on June 26, 1933, in Algona, Iowa, to Walter and Edna (Rath) Leonard. She graduated from Vernon Consolidated School near Renwick, Iowa. Joan was united in marriage to Peter F. Malkmus in Livermore on Jan. 26, 1953.

From this union, five children were born: Barbara (Rodney) Mallison; Linda (Scott) Thompson, Humboldt; Judy Kutschara (Gary Berte), Livermore; Daniel "Louie" Malkmus, Dakota City; and Becky (Jerry) Kayser, Fountain Hills, Ariz. Also left to cherish her memory are 10 grandchildren: Erica (Nick) Graves, Denise (Timothy) Whittall, Nicol Jacobs, Boyce (Courtney) Harris, Caleb Mallison, Jessi (Brandon) Ree, Adam (Sherri) Kutschara, Levi (Brittany) Kutschara, Casey Kayser and Kelly Kayser; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother, Duane Leonard of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Joan in death are her parents; brothers Dale, Ronald, Larry and Virgil; and her husband Pete, who passed away on Feb. 2, 1997.

A visitation was held at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home on Monday, July 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt on Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Livermore.

Special thanks to the staff at Humboldt North Care Center and Humboldt Community Memorial Hospital for the loving care given to Joan.
