Richard August Rompf, son or August and Margaret Rompf, was born at Somonauk, Ill., March 24, 1870, and died at the home of his brother, William in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Jan. 12, 1935.

He grew to manhood in Illinois; and received his education in the public schools there. He devoted his entire life to farming interests, working either with his father and brothers or being employed on nearby farms by others.

In the spring of 1900 he came with his mother and brother to Iowa where they settled on a farm north of Eagle Grove. Since then he has been a continuous resident in Eagle Grove township, making his home with his brother, William.

He was baptized as a lad in the German Protestant Evangelical Reformed church where he also attended the Sunday school and received his religious instruction. He was a man of quiet ways and of good habits and kind to everyone.

Some eight or ten years ago his health began to fail and he has been fighting to regain it by the best care that was obtainable. He was able to be up and about the house until a few days ago when he suddenly grew weaker and was confined to his bed. He remained conscious to the end and quietly slipped away to his eternal home on Saturday morning.

He leaves to mourn his going, two brothers, Henry Rompf of Marion, Iowa, and William Rompf of Eagle Grove, one sister and his father and mother having preceded him in death. He is also survived by two nieces and one nephew who will greatly miss their beloved uncle. He will be missed also by a number of neighbors and friends who have come to know and appreciated his friendship greatly.

The funeral service was held on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Wilson funeral home, conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church, Rev. W. L. Breaw. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
