John F. Fritz (1868-1944)

January 24, 1868 --- April 25, 1944

John F. Fritz, 76, retired farmer, died at his home on North Wright Ave. Tuesday morning, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Fritz was a Spanish American War Veteran, being a member of Co. K 52nd Iowa Inf.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at Wilson's Funeral Chapel. Rev. Clarence W. Tompkins of the Methodist church will be in charge. Mr. Fritz was member of the local Methodist church.

He is survived by two sons, Fred F. Fritz of Rockwell City, and Herman L. Fritz, with the armed services in England, one step-daughter, Mrs. Jennie Anderson of Morley, Mich.

His daughter-in-law, Mrs. Herman Fritz is on her way here from San Pedro, Calif. to attend the services.

His bearers will be secured from Spanish American Veterans and full Military honors will be given by Clarence Shurtz Post of the American Legion. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: The 52nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry was mustered into service on May 25, 1898 at Des Moines, Iowa. At the time, it consisted of 50 officers and 822 enlisted men. The unit grew to include 49 officers and 1,235 enlisted men. The unit never saw service outside of the continental United States, and was mustered out of service on October 30, 1898, also at Des Moines, Iowa.
