Calvin Christian Knoll, son of the Rev. Mathias Knoll and Sarah Knoll, was born May 16, 1880 at Belmond, Iowa. He passed away June 14 at the Hartley Memorial Hospital after several months illness at the age of 83 years.
He was united in marriage with Lucinda Hopkins at Bradgate, July 1, 1908. He was Superintendent of schools at Bradgate and Gilmore City; he was Postmaster at Gilmore City for 16 years and a Past President of the Humboldt County Board of Education. He helped to establish the library at Gilmore City and served many years on the Library Board. He continued his association with the library work and served on the Library Board at Battle Creek. He was an active participant in Sunday School and choir work for a period of over 50 years until ill health necessitated his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Battle Creek; a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. Because of his contribution in composing the history of Humboldt County, his name appears in Who's Who of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers. Surviving are his wife and two sons, Stanley M. of Sandusky, Ohio and Sterling H. of Battle Creek, two sisters, Mrs. Ben Boyd of Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Elizabeth McElroy of Chanute, Ore., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at First Presbyterian church in Battle Creek with interment in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Christensen Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa.
