Jan “John” Abels
11 February 1868 ---- 3 December 1952

John Abels was born at Bellingwolde, Holland, Feb. 11, 1868. He was married in 1889 to Jennie Jansen; with seven children being born to this union.

In 1912 they moved to the United States, settling near the town of Kamrar, where they engaged in farming. His wife preceded him in death in 1935 and he was also preceded in death by one son. Since the death of his wife he had made his home with his son, Cornelius, at Dows.

In August he was taken sick and hospitalized for several weeks before being brought home. In October, he was returned to the hospital at Hampton where he died Dec. 3 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 22 days.

He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Heiks de Groate of Holland; John Abels of Buffalo Center; Cornelius Abels of Dows; Mrs. Clarence (Marie) Sykes of Blairsburg; Mrs. Herman (Trena) Ohden of Ricevllle and Mrs. Bene (Katharine) Meyering of Blairsburg. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and one brother, Ben Abels of Webster City.

Funeral services were held at the Green funeral home at Hampton with the Rev. Russell A. Carrey officiating and with burial at the Liberty Center cemetery near Blairsburg.
