Michael Lee Zirbel, 36, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, April 20, at Dows. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Joan Ayers, of the Dows United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
He was born July 31, 1953, at Mason City, to Max and Lena Marie (Nardicchio) Zirbel. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1973 and attended college in Piedmont, Calif., majoring in ecology. He did landscaping and decorating in Piedmont, Calif., and worked in Santa Monica, Calif., in the parks department. Later, he worked for Sprint Telephone and Budget Rent Car in the reservation department in San Francisco, Calif. He loved the outdoors.
Memorials may be given to the Michael Lee Zirbel Memorial Fund.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lena Peyton, and stepfather, Merlin Peyton, both of Dows; one sister, Julie Reimer, of Clear Lake; and two brothers, Roger Zirbel, Jackson, Miss., and Jay Zirbel, of Guerneville, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father.
Honorary pallbearers were Beverly Hyde and Joan Eness. Active pallbearer was Steven Price. Bill Dewey was the soloist.
