Edson J. Davis
January 1825 ---- October 13, 1907

Mrs. Lewis Paul received a letter from a sister at Eagle Grove last Tuesday, that carried news of interest to the old settlers of south Dickinson. It says that Edson Davis, an old-time resident of Milford has died very suddenly in South Dakota, of heart disease, at the age of 85 years. The body was brought back to Goldfield, Iowa, for burial beside that of his wife and daughter. All old residents of this end of the county will remember Mr. Davis. If we remember correctly he homesteaded the farm now owned by Wilbur Moreland, just west of Milford.

Mr. Edson J. Davis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Buswell, at Montrose, So. Dak., on Oct. 13. Funeral services at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. B. J. Book, in Goldfield, Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Whistle, of the Baptist church, of which denomination deceased had been a member. Interment in Goldfield cemetery. Old soldiers attended both of those funerals in a body.

Mr. Fitzmaurice and others of Eagle Grove, attended the last mentioned funeral, Mr. F. having been a member of the same regiment as Mr. Davis.

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Buswell arrived in the city Wednesday from Montrose, S. D. for a week's visit among their many friends. They bring the sad news of the death of Mrs. Buswell's father, Mr. Davis. He died without special sickness and was 83 years of age. The family is pleased with their South Dakota home and with the country. They are prospering there.
