May 20, 1859 --- July 26, 1930

William Broeffle was born in Lawrence county, New York, May 20, 1859. At the age of seven years he came with his parents to Mendota, Ill. At the age of 21 years he came to Eagle Grove, Ia., where he entered the employ of the C. & N. W. Ry. After four years of service he moved to California where he also did some railroading. He returned to Eagle Grove where he continued his railroad work for 26 years then went to Benld, Ill., where he worked until he was pensioned last year.

On December 26, 1890 he was united in marriage to Bessie Hannaord [Hanaford] of California.

He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge and the B. of L. F. & E. He died in California after an illness of about 20 minutes on July 26, 1930 at the age of 71 years, two months and six days. He is survived by his wife and son, Ward, one brother, Henry of Eagle Grove, five sisters: Mrs. A. W. Mosher of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Lon Crawford of Alaska, Mrs. D. A. Kenna, Mrs. M. E. Foss and Mrs. C. Pohlman of Eagle Grove and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Thursday afternoon. Rev. W. G. Muhleman preached the sermon. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
