Patrick McGraw
1844 --- July 9, 1900

Paddy McGraw died at the Revere house Monday morning after an illness of several weeks. His trouble was considered fatal at first. Paddy was an old landmark in this city and occupied a niche all peculiar to himself. His good natured greetings will be missed by all and no one has any but kind words for "Paddy." The funeral was held at Sacred Heart church Tuesday morning and the burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

PASSING OF A CHARACTER
Death of Paddy McGraw Announced Monday Morning
Paddy McGraw is dead. Monday morning at 10 o'clock he passed away in the Revere House where he was taken lately. He had been sick a long time and his death was due to the wearing out of tissues already eaten away with strong drink. This was Paddy's only failing. Whiskey was his friend and it proved his final enemy. Still the old man was well along the race of three score years and ten allotted to man; he may have been more, no one knew not even himself how old he was.

McGraw, or McDuff as he was better known, came to Eagle Grove when the little village had assumed the importance of a name and this has been his home ever since. Of late years he lived in the old city calabooso on Broadway and raised a little garden truck which enabled him, with the aid of friends, to eke out a bare existence.

Every town has its character and Paddy was pre-eminently Eagle Grove’s. He was known by sight to nearly every inhabitant and to all, especially the gentler sex, he was politeness personified. He represented a type found in every city and he was, in Eagle Grove, a type alone. He was always for Eagle Grove and when the odds were against us, on the ball field or elsewhere, he was a strong champion. He was a friend to all, a scorner of false pretensions and a man of peculiar ability.

To him living was an uphill task, yet, with his light, he did well. May he rest in peace. The funeral was hold at Sacred Heart Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Supervisor France has been looking after the old man for some time and the burial was at the county's expense.
