October 6, 1875 --- October 4, 1950

George A. Sharp a retired C&NW engineer died at the hospital in Cherokee Wednesday evening. Mr. Sharp had been in the hospital about a year.

He is survived by his wife residing at 409 N. Commercial and his daughter Mrs. Herschel Flummerfelt [Flumerfelt] and several other sons and daughters.

George Abner Sharp was born October 6, 1875 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was the eldest of eight children, son of William and Martha Martin Sharp. He departed this life Oct. 4, 1950. Had he lived until Oct. 6th he would have attained the age of 75 years.

He spent his early childhood in and around Council Bluffs. At the age of ten he moved with his family and settled on a farm in Shelby county. There he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage on July 3, 1898 with Alice L. Kelley. To this union six children were born: George E. of Mason City, Iowa; Evelyn Flumerfelt of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mildred Horlacher of Storm Lake, Iowa; Floyd R. of New York City; Doris Budine of Kansas City, Mo.; Lois Sloan of Sioux City, Iowa.

After his marriage he farmed in Shelby county until 1905. Then he moved to Eagle Grove and became an employee of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad until his retirement as a locomotive engineer in 1943.

He was reared in the Latter Day Saints faith. In the year 1945 he joined the Methodist church in Eagle Grove. He was a member of the Golden Links Lodge No. 68 I.O.O.F., a member of Junietta, Rebekah Lodge and belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

George was a kind and devoted husband and father. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, the six children, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, three sisters, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7th in the Methodist church. The pastor Rev. Harrison Dawes officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
