Ralph Lavern [Luverne] Carolus was born November 24, 1926, at Wesley, Iowa, the son of Ralph Sr. and Emma Lassahn Carolus.

He was educated in a country school near Belmond.

Ralph was united in marriage to Betty Rayl of Clarion, on October 31, 1949, at Clarion.

The couple lived near Dows, where Ralph was, employed by Ervin and Leslie Korth as a farmhand for 18 years. They moved to Eagle Grove, and he was employed by Boone Valley Coop Processing for 12 years, and 2 years for Farmland Industries, after they had purchased Boone Valley.

He was working at the time he became ill, and entered the Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, on May 2. He died there on May 11, 1985, at the age of 58 years, 5 months, and 17 days.

Ralph is survived by his widow; 1 son, Thomas, Barstow, Calif.; 1 daughter, Patricia, Mrs. Lee Dau, Des Moines; 2 grandchildren, Ambyr Carolus and Tia Dau and 4 brothers and 1 sister, Donald, Mason City;. Vernon, Radcliffe; Merwin, Mason City; Merlin, Rock Falls; Lorraine, Mrs. Ben Bartleson, Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ralph was a veteran of Army service, having served from 1945 to 1947 with service in Germany.

Ralph was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove.

Funeral services for Ralph L. Carolus, age 58 of Eagle Grove, were held on Monday, May 12, 1985 at 1 p.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Carlton Shaw officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
