JAMES O. GRAVES
James Orville Graves, son of Emmett and Mary Downey Graves, was born June 12, 1903 at Davis City. He attended the Holden Rural School at Davis City and farmed with his father. On March 5, 1923, he married Doris Fetty at Davis City. The couple farmed near Davis City until 1936 when they moved to the Webster City area where they continued to farm. He retired in 1964, but continued in employment at the Rotary Ann Care Center in Eagle Grove, Webster City Monument Company and Graceland
Cemetery. For the past three years, he had resided at Pleasant Hill. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.James O. Graves died early Monday, August 8, 1988, at Parkridge Manor in Pleasant Hill, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris, in 1963; one brother; a half-brother; and a half-sister. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Frances) Olson, Pleasant Hill; Mrs. Dean (Doris) Helton; and Loudene Arnold, both of Webster City; Mrs. Jim (Dixie) Ralston, Eagle Grove; Max of Marshalltown; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Graves, Brownsville, Texas; Forrest Graves, Lamoni; two sisters, Ellen Dunbar, Duncombe; and Clella Pickering, Garden Grove, Calif.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Helton, a grandson, officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery.
