Frank Reif, son of Henry and Fredreika Reif, was born in Chicago, Ill., Dec. 25, 1881, and died in Mercy hospital in Fort Dodge, Ia., Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, 1935, after a very brief Illness.
Mr. Reif came west with his parents when but a lad and lived for a short time in Nebraska, later coming to Iowa and settled at Remsen, where he grew to manhood. His father died at a very early age and he early learned to care for himself. He was employed in various kinds of work as a young man and finally entered the employ of the Northwestern Railroad as a trainman on Sept. 21, 1909. He was promoted to conductor on July 24, 1915, and has been in service with this company until his death.
He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Koch of Remsen, Iowa, on Sept. 4, 1902. To them were born eight children, four sons and four daughters, six of whom survive him. Helen and Roland died in infancy. His wife died Feb. 24, 1922. On Sept. 25, 1934 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Nell Joyce of Eagle Grove, who with the six children, survive him. They are Selma (Mrs. Ralph Cox) of Clarion, Iowa; Irene (Mrs. John Boring) Flint, Mich.; Bessie (Mrs. Arthur Bohy) Clarion; and three sons, Raymond of Clarion; Carl of Eagle Grove; and Geo. of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by one brother, Harry of Stephenson, Wash., and one step-sister, Mrs. Emma Mairstein, Sioux City. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor and friend. He leaves in his untimely going a large circle of friends who share with the family their deep sorrow, caused by his sudden going.
