Shirley E. Knack Niemier
14 June 1931 ---- 12 September 2015

Shirley E. Niemier, 84, of Fort Dodge passed away on Saturday September 12, 2015 at the Simpson Health Center after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday September 15, 2015 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Shirley was born in Fort Dodge on June 14, 1931 to Harley and Gretchen (Fischer) Knack. She grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. She married George Niemier and they later divorced. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. She was a longtime employee of Sears where she retired as the assistant manager. After retiring from Sears she went on to work at JC Penney’s where she retired again in 2006 and then went to work for Casey’s. She was also a volunteer at the Salvation Army. She loved spending time with her friends and family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, baking and roller-skating.

Shirley is survived by her children Toni (Dave) Vaughn of Olathe, KS, Gail Dunn of Tacoma, WA, Paula (Kevin) Anderson of Waverly, IA, Rhonda (Roger) Gustafson of Fort Dodge and Rick (Jackie) Niemier of Marian, IA; her grandchildren Bryan Vaughn, Alyssa Vaughn, Sean Utley, Tammy (Carolynn Lee) Utley, Blake (Lacey) Utley, Carrie Condon, Alexis Dunn and Ashley (Matt) Bratlien and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Karla Sue Niemier and her brothers Leland and Millard Knack.

Memorials may be left to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or a charity of your choice.
