Leland E. Knack, 79, of Eagle Grove, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2004, at the Assembly of God Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Greg Marlow officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Leland E. Knack was born December 1, 1924, in Fort Dodge, the son of Harley and Gretchen (Fischer) Knack. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Fort Dodge High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany during World War II as an Army-Medic. On January 25, 1948, he married Evelyn I. Gonder, at Thor. They lived in Thor for five years where Leland owned and operated Gonder and Knack Construction Company in Thor with his father-in-law, Verne Gonder. In 1954 the couple moved to Eagle Grove and Leland served as the City of Eagle Grove Street Commissioner for many years. He also worked for Giese Construction and Farmland near Duncombe. After his retirement, Leland was a caretaker at the golf course.

Leland married Ione (Haaland) Pohlman on December 31, 1997 at Eagle Grove. He was currently a member of the Assembly of God Church in Eagle Grove and former member of the Samuel Lutheran and the Church of the Open Bible. He also served on the city council.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and had a large display of model trains. He is survived by his wife, lone, of Eagle Grove; son, Kevin Knack, and his wife, Patti, of Onalaska, Wisc., a daughter, Kathi Wilson, and her husband, Stuart, of Spokane, Wash.; step-daughters, Karen Porter, and her husband, Francis, of Eagle Grove, and Kathy Williams, and her husband, Gary, of Eagle Grove, stepsons, Jack Mosher of Eagle Grove, and Doug Mosher of Des Moines, three grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Niemeier, of Fort Dodge, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Evelyn, on Jan 20, 1997, and his brother, Millard Knack. The Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
