Tommy Lon Watson was born May 10, 1921, at his parent's farm home near Eagle Grove, Iowa. After graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1938, he drove a car carrier for Ellsworth Trucking until enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He returned to the family farm and married Erma Frette of Badger, Iowa, in September of 1946. After retirement, he remained active in farming with his son, Steve. Before his illness, he was an active member of the community, including a member and former trustee of his church, Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of the Eagle Grove Farmers Elevator, the Eagle Grove Airport Commission, Flying Farmers, and Clarion Pilots Club.

Tommy Lon Watson died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at his home at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Erma, Eagle Grove; two sons, Mike Watson, and wife, Rogene, Rochester, Minn., and Steve Watson, and wife, Dot, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Lori Garetson and husband, Keith, Clarion, Iowa; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Bette McCaulley, Eagle Grove, and Eileen Rogness, Estherville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter, Diane Sue.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverends Paul and Susan Stone officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
