Donald Spurgeon Rae was born May 7, 1907, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of William and Anna Mangle Rae. He was educated in Charter Oak. Don went to Chicago, Ill., where he was a cab driver for a number of years.

He was united in marriage to Edith Bedford Manaois of Chicago, on Aug 20, 1941. They lived in Chicago until 1949, then moved to Eagle Grove, where Don was self-employed in TV sales. He retired from this in 1960. He returned to Chicago on and off over the years to drive cabs to relieve the boredom of retirement.

Don served in the U. S. Army for a time during World War II.

He died at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, Sept. 18, 1986, after a long illness, at the age of 79 years, four months and 11 days.

He is survived by his wife Edith, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Mrs. Frank Pardun, Goldfield, Iowa, brother, Wayne Rae, Charter Oak, Iowa, sister, Laura Start, Fort Dodge, Iowa, stepsons, Thomas Manaois-Tamarac, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Raymond Manaois, Chicago Heights, Ill. Also two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. Don was a member of the VFW, DAV, and the American Legion.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev Raul Schaedig of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
