Arthur Alan Askelsen (1920-1981)

March 18, 1920 --- January 12, 1981

Arthur Alan Askelsen, the son of Oscar and Anna J. Kvale Askelsen, was born on March 18, 1920 at Eagle Grove. He died at his farm home near Woolstock on Monday, Jan. 12, 1981, after suffering a sudden illness. He attained the age of 60 years, 9 months and 24 days.

Arthur graduated from the Clarion High School in 1938. On December 8, 1941, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country until 1948. For several years he farmed near Vincent and then moved to his present farm home near Woolstock. He was a member of the Woolstock American Legion Post and the Bower Masonic Lodge No. 464, A.F. & A.M. of Eagle Grove.

He is survived by his sister, Gladys, Mrs. Marvin Knutson of rural Kanawha; his brother, Kenneth R. Askelsen of Eagle Grove; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Askelsen of Clarion and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard.

Funeral services for Arthur A. Askelsen were held on Thursday, Jan. 15, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Don Callen, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated and the burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Masonic services were conducted by the officers and members of the Bower Masonic Lodge No. 464 of Eagle Grove on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
