Obituary

Margaret Fern Ammerman was born on January 28, 1918, in Scott township, Franklin county, Iowa. Her parents were George C. and Annie Thompson Ammerman. Her early years were spent on the home farm. She came to Goldfield with her parents about 1930. She was a pupil in the grades and high school for several years, dropping out in the eleventh grade.

On September 19, 1935, Margaret Ammerman became the bride of Lawrence P. Johnson, who has for years been a section hand on the Rock Island Railroad. The new home was made in Goldfield: and continued here until a year ago, when Lawrence, familiarly called "Pete," was transferred to work at Dows. To this union four children were born, one dying in Infancy. The three living are Geraldean, Larry LeRoy and Stanley Eugene.

Late in February Mrs. Johnson became seriously afflicted with sinus trouble which caused intense suffering in the head. She was taken to the hospital in Hampton early in March, and on April 2, to the University hospital at Iowa City. Several operations were performed but failed to bring the hoped for improvement. Her vitality was so depleted that she was unable to rally, and gradually weakened until death ensued early this week. Sad and bitter is the sorrow at the going of a young woman, and the breaking of life plans, so full of hope. Especially sad is such a case when little children are left motherless.

The death of Margaret Ammerman Johnson is mourned by the stricken husband, Lawrence P. Johnson, by Mr. and Mrs. George C. Ammerman, her parents; four brothers and four sisters; by Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Johnson, parents of Lawrence, and by other relatives and many friends. Interment will be made in the Goldfield cemetery.
