Lawrence P. Johnson died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at the USA Health Care of Clarion, Iowa, after a short battle with cancer, at the age of 86.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry, and wife, Shirley, Pasco, Wash., Larry, and wife, Jackie, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Stanley, and wife, Patricia, Bull Shoals, Ark.; one sister, Gertrude Wright, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Harold Johnson, and wife, Francis, Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Margaret (Ammerman); one son, Marvin; second wife, Mary (Dow); stepdaughter, Karen Doyle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Othnel (Mary Louise), Burnene (Louise), and Norman (Marge); sister and brothers-in-law, Iola Pogge (Fred) and Ray Wright.

Lawrence P. "Pete" Johnson, the son of Lawrence P. and Ethel B. (Hann) Johnson, was born on June 27, 1916, seven miles north and a quarter mile east of Goldfield, Iowa, on the old Schutter farm. He was a life long resident of Wright County, living most of his life in Goldfield, and a short time in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was married to Margaret Ammerman on September 19, 1935. She preceded him in death in 1940. He married Mary Doyle on April 14, 1952. She preceded him in death in 1993. He was a World War II Veteran, serving with the 3rd Armored division. After returning from the service, he was employed as a mechanic at Mosley John Deere Implement Co. for seven years. In 1952, they purchased and operated the Goldfield Café. After selling the café, they operated the LaMar Inn and the Eagle Inn in Eagle Grove until their retirement. He then undertook lawn mowing and gardening until his death. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, at 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

Memorials may be directed to Wright County Hospice.

Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove is in charge of arrangements.
