Roy Wilhelm Fischer was born January 29, 1901, in Lake Township, Calhoun County, Iowa, near Rockwell City, the son of William and Alena Schoen.

He attended rural school and graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1918. Roy worked in El Paso, Texas for a year and a half, and then returned to Rockwell City where he was a farm hand for his brother-in-law.

On July 27, 1925, he was united in marriage to Ronelva Reddick of Vincent, Iowa at Fort Dodge. The couple farmed near Vincent before moving to Eagle Grove in 1949. Roy was actively engaged in farming until 1957.

Mrs. Fischer died August 4, 1973.

Roy maintained their home for a number of years, then moved to the Rotary Ann Apartments on South Park.

Roy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, the Masonic Lodge, Chapter & Council and the Eagle Grove Senior Citizen Center.

He suffered a stroke May 14, 1987 and died at Trinity Regional Hospital at Fort Dodge Friday, May 15 at the age of 86 years, three months and 15 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, daughter, Janice, three brothers, John, Walter, and Raymond, two sisters, Emma Ageter and Clara Kispert.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Lois) Wilson, Eagle Grove, June Edith Fischer, Clear Lake, Mrs. Bernard (Vernice) Maier, Eagle Grove, Royetta Wells, Ankeny; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 18, 1987 at 10.30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Scott C. Hall officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Masonic service was held at 8 p. m. Sunday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
