George Mark Frommelt (1928-1983)

June 18, 1928 --- October 14, 1983

George Mark Frommelt was born June 18, 1928 near McGregor, the son of Leo H. and Anastasia De Sotel Frommelt.

He graduated from Elkader High School and Junior College.

He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 with nine months overseas duty. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars; the occupation medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was discharged in 1952 with the rank of Corporal.

George was united in marriage to Joan Loecke of Greeley, on Sept. 9, 1954 at Greeley. The couple farmed near Elkader four years, near Dows one year, then he worked for the Co-op in Dows. George moved to Eagle Grove in 1963 and was employed by the Chapman Oil Company until 1977 and then worked for Oldson Plumbing and Heating.

He had been in ill health for the past three years and in the Clarion Community Hospital four weeks before his death on Oct. 14, 1983 at the age of 55 years, three months and 26 days.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Eagle Grove; two sons, Mark of Eagle Grove and Greg of Eagle Grove; four daughters, Terese (Mrs. David) Mraz of Des Moines; Laura (Mrs. Colin) Smith of Sioux City; Janette (Mrs. Don) Asche of Eagle Grove and Julie Frommelt of Eagle Grove; and one grandson, Nickolas Mraz. Also surviving are two brothers, Harold Frommelt of Epworth; Leo Frommelt of Sioux City and two sisters, Jean Ann (Mrs. Duane) Smith of Sioux City and Marylyn Nutter of Augusta, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents. George was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove and the American Legion.
