One of Eagle Grove's Early Settlers Called—Funeral Last Sunday.

The funeral of Mrs. Geo. W. Duer was held last Sunday afternoon at the home on South Cadwell avenue. Prayer was by Rev. H. Fay Tyler of| the Congregational church and the sermon was by the Rev. C. H. Seward of the Methodist church.

Mrs. Duer died in Chicago, June 10th following an operation. She was an early settler here and among our highly esteemed citizens.

Obituary

Sarah Jane Anderson, daughter of Peter and Jane Anderson, was born in Miami county, Ohio, October 6th, 1840. She died in Chicago, June 10th, 1920, having reached the mature age of 79 years, 8 months and 4 days.

She moved to Iowa with her parents in the year 1857. On March 7, 1858, she was married to Geo. W. Duer, who preceded her in death in 1895. To this union eleven children were born, of whom, Franklin, the eldest, died in infancy. Those surviving her: Mrs. Newton Bawn, Miss Mae Duer, C. H. Duer, reside at Eagle Grove, H. A. Duer at Clarion, Iowa, Mrs. J. G. Schaefer at Long Beach, Calif., E. E. Duer at Newton, Iowa, Mrs. E. L. Pieper at Cogswell, N. Dak., Mrs. E. V. Ley at Houston, Texas, Mrs. Susan Nelson at Chicago and Mrs. J. E. Weimer at Hartley, Iowa.

She is survived by one brother, Mr. Albert Anderson, of Cumberland, Iowa, who with his daughter, Leila, were present at the funeral, and twenty-four grand-children and eight, great grand-children. Her children were all present at the funeral, excepting Mrs. J. G. Schaefer of California. There were also present her grand-daughter, Mrs. Earl Schuck and husband of Parkersburg, Iowa, Bayard Duer and wife of Newton, Iowa, Rae Duer and wife of Clarion, Iowa, Mrs. Benita Nelson, of Chicago Mr. and Mrs. Daniels of Kamrar, Iowa. Mrs. F. A. Kayser and daughter and others of Webster City, Master Homer Ley of Huston, Texas, Miss Helen Duer of Newton, Iowa and Mr. J. E. Weimer of Hartley, Iowa.

Her children realize the loss of a kind and indulgent Mother, a true friend and a parent who took their problems of life to heart and made them her problems. She took the greatest of pleasure in the gatherings of her children at her commodious home in this city. And she reveled in the anticipated joy of such gatherings for days and weeks in advance.

The pallbearers were made up of sons and grandsons, H. A. Duer and son, E. E. Duer and son, C. H. Duer and son, and Geo. Bawn.
