Mona DeVaul, the daughter of Gordon and Mary Ann Merrill, was born on November 11, 1898 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, June 18, 1980 at the Clarion Care Center in Clarion, Iowa at the age of 81 years, seven months and seven days.

She received her education in the Sacred Heart School in Eagle Grove. Mona was united in marriage with Jack DeVaul of Eagle Grove on October 16, 1924 at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. Mr. DeVaul died in 1963. Mona was employed for a number of years as a bookkeeper for the Maplewood Dairy in Eagle Grove.

She had been ill for some time and was taken to Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge where she spent five weeks and then transferred to the Clarion Care Center on June 11. She was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eagle Grove.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane and her husband, Jeffrey George of Houston, Tex.; two granddaughters, Mrs. Meryl Zimmerman and Mrs. Susan Jackson; a great-granddaughter, Suzanne Zimmerman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Maude, Bess, Gertrude and Helen; three brothers, Charles, Gordon and Raymond.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mona DeVaul were held on Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Norman White officiated and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery at Eagle Grove. The Rosary service was held on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
